Virus spread versus contact tracing: Two competing contagion processes
نویسندگان
چکیده
The authors model contact tracing as a secondary contagion process that competes with of the pathogen, thus effectively breaking transmission chains, and show allows to bend curve.

A new coexistence result for competing contact processes
Neuhauser (1992) considered the two-type contact process and showed that on Z2 coexistence is not possible if the death rates are equal and the particles use the same dispersal neighborhood. Here, we show that it is possible for a species with a long, but finite, range dispersal kernel to coexist with a superior competitor with nearest neighbor dispersal in a model that includes deaths of block...
متن کاملOn the Spread of Influenza by Contagion
Until the occurrence of the epidemic of influenza in 188990 very few living physicians knew from personal observation anything about the disease or its method of spread. They had, therefore, to rely on the teaching of the past, and I think many of them attached almost implicit reliance on the statements of Sir Thomas Watson, many of whose observations they have been able to verify in the case o...
متن کاملA contact-tracing procedure.
The increase in the number of new cases of gonorrhoea and the apparent expansion of the reservoir of carriers of the disease have directed attention to the need for reviewing contact-tracing techniques. To obtain the opinions of others on this subject, a *questionnaire was sent to the physicians-in-charge of 205 special treatment centres in England in April 1962. From the replies received, it w...
متن کاملCase isolation and contact tracing can prevent the spread of smallpox.
Fears that terrorist groups may have gained access to variola virus have led to widespread discussions on how to prevent the reintroduction of smallpox by vaccination and on the availability of sufficiently large amounts of vaccine. In this paper, the author examines how the spread of smallpox is affected by isolating overt cases and taking their contacts under close surveillance for up to 3 we...
متن کاملAnalyzing Two Competing Epidemic Processes - The Power of Influential Nodes -
Epidemic processes are widely used for the design and analysis of algorithms in distributed computing. On the other side, such processes can also model the spread of a malicious piece of information in a distributed environment. In this paper, we consider two competing epidemic type processes in a network modeled by a random graph with power law degree distribution. The first process V models t...
